Toronto Waterfront 5K - Walk and Fundraising

As many of you know, the last year for me has been one filled with a massive Journey.... a journey from health challenges.... through into a place of becoming more and more healthy.    A lot of this has been due to the work I have been doing with an obesity specialist here in Toronto.    On September 7th, I realized a HUGE goal, and that was to loose at least 100lbs.     About a month ago, I decided that I wanted to try and "celebrate" this day by taking part in an event to mark the occasion.    Since my journey has been about health and well-being - including making significant life-style changes around diet and exercise, I thought a fitting event would be The Toronto Waterfront Marathon - 5K Walk.     I have started to train and will be participating in the walk, along with my partner Iain, on September 30th, 2007.

I am choosing to walk, and to raise funds - as a way to celebrate this huge goal of 100lbs lost and as a way to reclaim "exercise" in a general way through participation in a large public event like this.

As part of that walk, there is an opportunity to do some fundraising on behalf of a Charity that is part of the "ScotiaBank Charity Challenge".     The Charity that I have chosen is "The Wellspring Cancer Support Network".    This group is dedicated to helping people recently diagnosed with, living with, in final life stages with, bereaved by, or affected by -  cancer.     As I have lost a number of friends and family to cancer, I know the HUGE value that having support can have during a battle with this horrible spectrum of disease.

My current goal is to raise $750 by the time I get to race/walk day on September 30th.     I know through the generosity of my family and friends, that this will not be difficult.    Through the generous support of Scotiabank ALL money donated goes directly to the Charity chosen.

I would ask YOU for whatever support is within your budget and ability to give - $5, $25, $50... or even the full $750.  *grins*

You can help support me by making a secure online donation using your credit card. Click on the link below:

Cash donations/pledges can also be made to me personally via a printed pledge sheet (contact me personally and we can arrange).   Contact me via a comment in my journal or via private e-mail and we can make arrangements from there.

Thank you for your consideration of this request, and I look forward to hearing from all of you soon.

With gratitude,
